Maâlem Hassan Hakmoun

Biography

Born in Marrakech to a moqaddema mother. Performed on the city's streets as a child alongside snake charmers and storytellers; relocated to New York in 1987 and built an international career bridging Gnawa with jazz, rock, and ambient music. Major collaborations with Peter Gabriel, Don Cherry, and Adam Rudolph.
